A bit of my playing...

Ok, here's my take on it. First of all get rid of Harry, he's far too talented for his own good (smart a55 little swine) On a serious note, I think the only thing that I could say was wrong with your performance, is a complete lack of confidence, though for the life of me I can't think why! Your blooming fantastic!!! Great tone, great musical feel and great timing. What more is there?
As for I'd rather go blind....... Again I love your take on the solo, I love the way you take a great and well known song and just turn your solo into your own. Well done, I think that takes real talent. As for your squeak due to running out of breath, I'd blame the lead guitarist as it looks like he dumped that extra bit of solo on you when you thought you'd finished!

Wow - thanks Taz, what lovely comments! :thankyou: I shall think of your words everytime I play now and hopefully that'll bring the confidence!:welldone

To be honest i can't see anything wrong with tapping your foot. I was taught to do it by one of my teachers, who was a pro studio musician. I actually did it before i met him cause i'm a drummer, so it was second nature to me. If you want to tap your foot tap it! It's only natural.
Regards Rob.:sax::sax:

Hi Rob, yes I tap my foot/shake my leg/jiggle about/shut my eyes/pull funny faces! ;} completely subconsciously when I'm playing and couldn't stop if tried! :happydance:

Hi Rob, I bet you tap your foot to the beat, not to the notes you play (unless of course you play all your notes on the beat) :w00t:
My comment was just to point out to Laura the only thing that I could see that I didn't like. It is IMHO a bad habbit (the part of the mind that should be keeping tempo - isn't) and that it would be benificial for her playing to lose it and get solidly on the beat.
Laura, I'm trying to be helpful, I think that everything else is great, especially the nice edge to your tone. Please don't take it the wrong way ;}

Hi John, thanks re my tone - I use a Rico Graftonite B3 (all I could afford lol!) with a jazz select 2s.

Because I can't afford lessons I appreciate the comments they are all constructive so no worries there :thumb:

I see what you mean now looking back it again it looks like I'm tapping to spurious notes - I was taught to tap to the beat in my jazz classes which I thought I always did and wasn't aware that I was going off that until pointed out - do you think that I wasn't solid enough on the beat? I've been doing alot of scale work to the Metronome recently because I was a bit concerned myself I might be losing rhthym. :)

Hi John,
Thats what i do, left foot on the beat and now and again right foot on the offbeat. I never go out of time, maybe thats because i'm a Drummer. Also when on Keys without pedals both feet are going like pistons. I honestly dont think i could keep perfect time without my feet going. I suppose its like a built in metronome. It's been known while on sax to lean against a wall for both feet to be going, but thats just me.
Rob. >:) P.S ever noticed when a lot of sax player's are sat down playing their feet are tapping to the beat. I rest my case.

Rob,Rob,Rob,
We are in agreement about being on the beat. :thumb: My point, if you watch the clip, is that Laura is tapping her foot to the notes she is playing, not the beat.
But OH isn't she !!GOOD!! that edgy sound will put many of us to shame, and all from a Graftonite!!!!!!! Laura don't ever change,as far as I'm concerned your where it's at;}

Hi John my friend, i know what you meant, i was just having a bit of fun. I knew you'd be on my case in an instant! I agree Arty has a wicked sound, couldn't believe it was a Graftonite. Now regarding tapping her foot to the notes she must be using PolyRhythms, clever girl! Can't wait to hear the Bari. Take care of yourself, Kind Regards Rob.:thumb:

It isn't that there's anything wrong with Lauras playing, as we've all said it's better than excellent!.
It's future improvement that I am thinking about! If the foot taps to the tune, it will be all over the place instead of on the beat, and would cause a problem when improvising (building a solo for instance). It seems to me that if the foot is tapping to the tune, it has become an interfering part of the improvising thought process, instead of the subconscious time keeper that it should be.

I've tried to explain my reasoning as best I can. Once again it's what I was taught years ago and I can see the logic in it.

John.

Rob, FUN! this is all deadly serious ;};};}

As for the bari, it is set up well and plays effortlessly from top to bottom. It is a real beast!
However, to be fair to it, I haven't had much time on it (but I have got a Metalite m'piece :w00t:) so can't do it justice. One thing I have noticed though, it is affecting the way I am hearing the sound of my mk6 tenor, and I'm not sure if that's good!!

Keep the faith, :thumb:

Ah yes, the tapping of feet. Be it for keeping a steady beat or a fascinating rhythm, it's actually a big step towards some cool dance moves. And that caters for a great stage show. So I say, keep on tapping >:)

Hi Arty or should i call you Laura,
The Polyrhythms are just an advanced type of rhythm, difficult to learn. Hence clever girl doing them and not knowing LOL. Anyway you've got a wicked sound and play great. Have you ever thought about dropping a few Growls in? you will be suprised how great they sound with a tone like you have.
Cheers Rob.:w00t:

Hi Laura, The best way to practice the growl is to play a pure tone then add the growl without stopping then back to pure tone with no breaks, carry on doing this like an exercise till you can do it at will. It's easy once you get into it, and then you can do it at will in your solos. Hope that helps.
Rob.
