iRealPro key confusion

I've never used garage band. I'm not sure why you would need to load a backing track into it. Is it to record over?
I opened audacity simultaneously with youtube and hit the red button like an old cassette recorder. You then have a file to play around with.

@nigeld - OK, finally got around to going into this a little more...

I had a look at Dan Short's videos and selected one to try on tenor, as under...

I used the "get rid of the "ube"" trick to download the MP3 track and have pasted it into a Garageband track as my backing track. So all ready to record? Not quite...

What I need to do first is to practice at my own speed using the sheet music but on screen on YouTube the sheet music is moving along at it's own speed and it would be a bit of a pain to keep pausing, going back, etc.

So, I need to find the tenor sax sheet music which Dan has on the screen so I can print it out and stick it on my music stand... question is, am I likely to be able to find this, and others, free or will I need to pay for it at one of the sheet music sites?

You always seem to be able to produce sheet music for SOTM and BOTM and I'm guessing you find it for free, but how?

Many thanks for any help (again).

The first place I look is MuseScore, because even if the version isn't quite right, it saves having to type in all the notes.
Second place is Real Books. In that case I have to enter the score by hand into MuseScore, but a single page only takes a few minutes.
Sometimes I have to buy a score from one of the sheet music sites.

In a case like yours, where you already have a picture of a score, I would simply type it into MuseScore.

As Pete says, the sheet music is in Concert C minor for tenor sax and concert F minor for alto.

Luckily, the iReal Pro backing you have is in concert F minor (it says Ab at bottom right, but hopefully that should be the same), and this is what the notes want for an alto sax.

So you just need to make sure that iReal pro is set to transpose for an Eb instrument instead of a Bb instrument:
a. click on the Settings icon at the top - it looks like a cog wheel
b. Choose Eb for transposing instrument

And it should work.

If you want to play it on tenor, you will have to change the chart to concert C minor:
a. Click on the pencil icon at the top and choose Edit
b. Click on the “i” symbol just above the keyboard
c. Choose Key, and set it to C minor
d. Choose “Set and Transpose”
e. Click Done, Done, Save

Or you can just click on the Ab symbol at the bottom and change it to Eb (relative major).
Hi @nigeld - back to this one again...

When I look at my iRealPro playlist I now have two versions of "Cry me a river" as under...

I have Ab for Alto and Eb for TEnor. But I thought I'd change the titles to 1/ Cry Me A River Alto and 2/ Cry Me A River Tenor, for even easier choice.

I went to the pencil symbol to see if this is possible, and this gives a choice of...

...so I chose "Edit", added "Alto" to the Ab version title and clicked Done. However both the versions then had the suffix "Alto."

How do I add a different suffix to each version? Many thanks for any help. Before you go though...

I have iRealPro set up on my ancient iPad, only used for sax stuff in my music room.
It's too old to run Garageband which I've used for recording previously so this is run on my MacBook Pro.
Q. Could you advise, or link to, how to get the iRealPro backing track into Garageband please?
I record so infrequently that every time I want to I've forgotten the import process!

Grateful if you can help?

Not much help... out of curiosity, I tried creating two songs with the same name and it didn't let me!
So I don't even know how you got in this situation!!
Even less help... if they are the same songs just transposed, as others have said, why not just have one version and selected the transposition you want before you start? or are they very distinct arrangements?

I don't understand why changing the title of one version of the song changes the other. They must be linked in some way that I don't understand.

To get an iRealPro backing track into Garageband you do the following:
On the phone:
open iReal Pro and select the song
Click the "share" button top right.
Export audio
Choose AAC
When it has completed the track generation it should bring up a window with options for sharing - choose AirDrop or Mail to send it to the MacBook.

On the Macbook
Open Garageband and close any existing open project.
Create a new empty project
Drag the audio file onto the Garageband screen.

I'm not sure how I got two either!
Maybe I duplicated the first and then on the duplicate changed the key from Alto to Tenor so as to have both versions listed for ease? That may explain why changing one title changes the other? But changing one's key doesn't change the other's.
However, the "key"(sic) to which is which doesn't always stick in my head. I've now printed out Nigel's instructions to remind me, but wanted to make it even easier... in the process making it harder!

I'm not sure there are two actual files... some other glitch in the matrix.
Try opening one, duplicate it - iReal with put you in the duplicate - select edit, (i), change the title and save.
Then open the original and edit it's title.
Then you'll have two. - or three, so ignore the 'original' if it's still there.

That's what I did.
Changed the title of both.
Ahh, I see. That means it's one song that's in your playlist twice, not 2 songs.

So go to Songs from the main screen, open the song, Edit, then Duplicate and rename there, and change the key, whatever you need to do to the second version. Remove both from your playlist, then add back the new/revised ones.

I've done this several times, and it works for me.

EDIT: I see mizmar posted the same thing at the same time. Great minds ...

On the MacBook in Airdrop I can see my iPad listed, but can't see the audio file?
Where is it? :confused2:
Ah... it's in Downloads!
Couldn't drag, so copied and pasted into track 2 of new GB project.
Good to go now... I think?
Will try it out. Going to compare my "new" YTS-22 & my 62.

Play your saxes and have fun! Let's face it. Computers, smartphones, AI .... makes us all stupid. Soo easy to use. Back to basic. The rhythm is still here. Make friends with guys that are not musicians or saxophone owners. A tractor owner can make my day. I learn about the injection, the mass flywheel ... . Computers or smartphones are very limited. An old water pump is better ...????
