Today's Weather

They say “we had to make the journey” no you didn’t !
Watching the news this morning and seeing people stranded and have put their lives in danger.
Beyond me !

It always surprises me too when folks do this.

I was supposed to drive to Scotland yesterday, but with an amber alert turning to red. ( which equates to “danger
to life” ) I decided not to to. I had to cancel an important meeting.

Now I see that hundreds of cars were stuck for 13 hours on the M80, cars everywhere, folks leaving their cars and walking etc etc etc.

I would have been on that very motorway at that time. In fact I was going even further north, to Perthshire

Now, some folks would have HAD to get in their cars. But all of them ?

Its not as if the situation wasn’t predicted.

In addition to engine in the front and rear wheel drive the mx5 weighs next to nothing. Yeah a bag of sand in the boot helps, but with winter tyres the difference is amazing. I can pretty much keep up with 4x4s in packed snow, not that I get much opportunity in the UK. Personally I wish we didn't spray salt but just used winter tyres; way less rust issues in an old car.
I have wondered about getting some for mine and as my brother has a tyre fitting business probably should but I tend to jump in hubby's car when it snows...

On last nights local news, there were several reporters 'live' on Motorway bridges, getting cold and wet. One of them even admitted his team had to get towed to a particularly bad spot, just so he could report. They then tell us not to travel. They could have done that from the comfort of their own homes..

Most of Cheshire is fine, only on the east of the county as you head up into the hills (MAcclesfield way) and encounter the Beast from the East does snow become an issue. Certainly north Shropshire is clear. I think it's a different story for southern Shropshire.

One of the best moments I had driving an ancient Reliant supervan running on 3 cylinders was climbing a steep hill in 4" of snow and waving to the chauffeur of a roller facing sideways across the road as I passed him. It don't matter what you drive if it won't go.

Windscreen washer was still frozen today. I got some funny looks winding the window down, sticking my arm out and squirting windowlene on the screen. Roll on Summer.
