Sept 2017: This Is All I Ask (Beautiful Girls Walk a Little Slower)

This is a really great song. How are people recording themselves?

I use a cheap Chinese mic off eBay and a free download of audacity with mostly default settings. Then at the end I add a small amount of reverb as an 'effect'.

Then I convert the wav output to mp3 using switch sound file converter.

Pity I only found this thread now! My recording space for this month already passed, so maybe in a next life!
I am sorry you did not manage to record it, I enjoy listening to you.

@Jeanette "I'm hoping to post a version but it might not make the end of this month"
I will look forward to that as well

@rhysonsax it's been a little slow round here this month Rhys:confused: Must be the holiday hangover ;)
Thanks for giving a new ballad to pay around with:)

Thanks to everyone who posted a version:)@mrpeebee the threads never close peter so if you find time you can always come back to it:)

Chris..

The thread doesn't close at the end of the month, so record and post your version as soon as you are ready. I know we will enjoy it.

Took the backing and sheet music with me during my current month recording session last Wednesday evening. Didn't know this tune at all and my music reading is bad, so I had to play the melody with the help of the backing including the vibes playing the melody in my left ear. That resulted in the melody being played a bit straight by me. Would have loved to study the song a bit further, but finding enough practice time is a big issue in my life!

Anyhow, here is my (late) quick and dirty take of this very nice song!

That is lovely playing - beautiful tone and very relaxed on the tune.

Your tenor sound brings out the wistfulness of the melody and then you crank it up for the solo, before bringing it home.

Well worth waiting for - thanks @mrpeebee

Next month will be fine, I'm hoping to post a version but it might not make the end of this month :)

This has taken a while. I've been playing on and off and have really struggled in parts not to run out of breath, too much tension and also going from the A to low C#. I just can't reach it cleanly with my fingers so it got left out in the end. I only played it through once so the end is rather abrupt :)

I really need to do more of these...

Any comments welcome

Thanks for listening

Tone is good, tuning is good, notes are good - well done!

My only advice is to try to relax more. Easier to say than do, I know!
Doing more of these recordings might help - it has for me.

Hi J,
You’re improving with every effort. Intonation is very good, play with confidence it’s not about you or me it’s just about the music. At this moment don’t worry about that A to low C#, if it sounds ok it is ok if you like to play about with the melody line that’s just fine by me.
Regards Al

Thanks both for your comments

I must admit I've not played enough of anything for quite sometime so I am going to commit to playing more of these :)
