So glad to have found this forum and be playing music once again after a seven-year hiatus! I am originally from the Midwest but lived out on the East Coast for 20-plus years, where I played in an all-female big band for almost 10 years. I have since moved back to my home state and have once again picked up my tenor sax...and I must say it feels fantastic!

Jazz is my favorite music to play - my number one influence is Dexter Gordon - but am starting to expand my repertoire to include funk, blues and R&B. I look forward to sharing my experiences here and am excited about hearing about other people's musical journeys. Happy playing, everyone!

A big welcome from Dorset,England.Dexter Gordon is a true giant and influence to me.Night in Tunisia,Holland 1964 is a YouTube video I love...
....who are your funk and r&b favourites??...Maceo??...Tower of Power??

A wonderful Welsh welcome from Wales to you @jzygrrl22 ! Another lady Tenor, I won't say the other way, it has awful connotations this side of the pond. After 10 years with a big band you must have reached a pretty good standard, like you say nothing like the feel of a sax in your hands and the sound jazz in your ears. Enjoy the camaraderie here you may find some of the comments a little idiosyncratic.

A perfect excuse to tell you to get over to the Song of the Month and Ballad of the Month sections of the forum (in the 'your sound clips' area. You'll find lots of different types of music here. Complete with a backing track and sheets, come have a go with us.

Big welcome from me. Good to hear you've gone back to your roots. Have fun here!
Thank you!

Welcome to the forum, and back to the sax.
Thanks!
