Ear Music Composition Challenge (EMC2) is here!

Thanks Chris and Ian for your kind comments. Interesting about adding the rain effect. It was raining and blowing outside so I decided to use a prerecorded storm sound at the start and finish and thought that the real storm would be picked up by the microphone. Surprisingly you couldn't hear it in the background after I faded down the storm track. We got the roof back on, so I didn't need the umbrella.

There are so many beautiful versions on here and I took inspiration from all of them to try this exercise.

I found it really tough and had several attempts before I even found my way. I've been watching a New Zealand drama - Top of The Lake about a young girl who has disappeared and this is my lament to her finding her way in the wilderness.

Thanks to Wade for this challenge, I did enjoy it and although I know there are loads of areas I can improve on, I figure if I don't put some stuff out there, I'll never get advice on where to go/what to work on.

Nice Sue. Very thoughtful dedication:thumb: I don't think you need any pointers other that keep doing it, it one of those musical exercises that the more you do, the more you find your own voice. :)

For my ear the most important part of this exercise is to capture the essence of what's inherently in the music and add to that. You've got it. There was certainly some wandering around, but I didn't think you were "lost". Hopefully we will hear more from you as future EMC2 exercises shift to other tempos, modes and feels.

Thanks Jim & Wade. I'd definitely like to keep doing this kind of exercise. Once I'd decided on the notes to play I actually found it more liberating than worrying about what chords/changes I should be playing. I look forward to the next challenge, although I'm not done with this one yet!!

Thou hast soul

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Never done anything like that before. I had a kind of narrative going on in my head as I played the recorder and it sort of reminded me of an old Vangelis album "China". The words came to me fully formed. I hope they're my own, but who knows what tricks the mind plays.

Colin

Where's that recording gone?... soundcloud just says 'Whoops!
