I saw this on ebay - what on earth is that crud on the mouthpiece - old cork? Why would one have old cork round the bottom of it? Hiding damage, splits?

I was thinking that. If I was selling it, I'd certainly clean it up first. As I said, could be damage behind the cork.

Expensive for a door stop.

But if you insist on a sax theme, you'll need some for door handles too. I'd suggest some bronze ones ... Nor the butchered ones we've seen as they would be dangerous for delicate hands. Musicians hands are delicate!

Probably but it’s a very strange way to repair a shank.
