Wind Controller Maybe a silly question about Yamaha wind synths...

I get that the fingering for the Yamaha WX wind synths is the same as a saxophone... but what key is it in?

i.e. If you play an A is it a concert A or whatever pitch a saxophone would sound? (I've never been any good at transposing, can you tell? )

wind synths generally have a transpose button so you can be literally in any key you want.

there is a small switch on the WX5 to change it from C to Eb or Bb - any other transposing would have to be done on the sound module or via MIDI software.

Hi all, thanks for your answers. Sorry for the long delay coming back, it's been a busy few days (plus the outlaws are staying, and apparently spending time on the computer is "antisocial" ).

I understand that there is a transpose function in the WT11... but presumably it must have a base or default key that it plays in? Otherwise how would you know how much you'd need to transpose it up or down by?

(was going to use the head-scratching smiley... but good heavens that's a BIG smiley! )

The WX11 doesn't have a transpose facility, unlike the WX5, so any transposition you want has to be done at the synth. How easy that is depends on the synth. The default key is concert pitch.
