Hello!

This month's song will be "You Go To My Head" written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie.
Everything about the song:

I find it interesting that a lot of Jazz- and Pop artists recorded this song, including Billie Holiday, Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Bryan Ferry, Marlene Dietrich and many others. Just an example featuring Ella:

(More than) thanks @nigeld for providing everything needed für us to cover this beautiful song:

You Go To My Head

The song is also included in several Aebersold books, i.e, Vol.40, Vol.97 and Vol.107 and in some MMO editions.

I will do all I can in this crazy time of the year (lots of concerts with my students and gigs) to comment your work.
Let the show begin!

Cheers, Guenne

Good choice of tune !

There seem to be lots of good sax recordings of this, and some absolutely great ones on alto from the likes of Paul Desmond, Art Pepper and Alan Barnes and a good baritone recording by Lars Gullin

I really like the feel of this driving version recorded by Lee Morgan and Wayne Shorter.

What a lovely tune. I have never heard it before, and I am looking forward to hearing all of the different recordings and interpretations. So far I am really liking the tune as a bossa and Wayne Shorter's beautiful rendition. Thanks to both @Guenne and @rhysonsax for bringing it to my attention.

Five years ago, after a 35 years stop, I has restart to play sax and almost three years ago here is my first home recorded take:
Very nice. Although it's on the sharp side intonationwise :) , it has lots of power and and nice musical ideas. Grazie!
Here's one I made about 4 months earlier.
Enjoyed listening to..
Nice timing and going back to the melody in the improvisation. I know that the chords are challenging, but on the other hand the melody is very strong.
Thanks!

Cheers, Guenne

I have an old live recording from July 2011, done with the Big Band (on a windy stage in Rotterdam in NL). Arrangement is from Bill Holman (meaning lots of notes and strange chords!). My short tenor solo starts at 4:00.

Those where other times. Band and tenor soloist do sound better now (I hope!).

I will do an improvised version later, but I have to return the Schagerl on Friday (or keep it)...:)

Cheers, Guenne
Slightly different "flavours" but both sound great. Is the Schagerl the second one?
I have just started trying to do videos for my recordings but I'm not sure how best to sync the video. Do you do it in the DAW or in video editing software?

Nice compare clips @Guenne.

You sound great on both and the differences are not that big, but I think I slightly prefer the first clip. Sounds seems to be a bit richer in my ears. But as player you will feel/detect much more changes than we can hear on compressed YouTube clips.

Which one do you like the best?

Hi,
I prefer the Eastman's sound. It's not as piercing when you push. The Schagerl though fits better for my hands, feels more like a Mark VI keywise. And (this could be just what I'm used to) is more stable in the altissimo. Interesting that the Schagerl has the large diameter palm key holes, the Eastman the small ones (like Mark VI or Yamaha),
