Saxophones Carmichael IS Bauhaus Walstein

Saw some air gun target shooting one time at the game fair, if anything more technical than full bore rifle.....and I can say that I never experienced any accidents (apart from two Chinese probationers trying to steal a target rifle)
now you've got me thinking about it I haven't seen any of my medals since I moved house, will try and dig them out and post pics!
Yes, there's a mathematical element working out the trajectory as a .22 pellet flies at only around 600 feet per second so has a "loopy" up and down path to the target. That's entirely predictable IF you know how far away your target is, which you don't. You have to find a way of accurately estimating distance to within a yard, either by eye or using the reticle lines to measure something on the target which is of a uniform size, which there almost never is! Add to this the effect of wind (the competitions are always outside) and it's rather difficult.

The World Championships are held in Leicestershire, which is handy, at Kelmarsh. That may have been the game fair you were at?

In 2010 I drew in 3rd place but before I knew my placing I bumped into the other 3rd placer who said he'd been told neither of us were in the placings, and I stupidly believed him and left for home (wanting to clean all the mud off me and my equipment).
Had I hung around we'd have had a shoot off for third. Lesson learned! Still, it's only coming first which counts really.

No it was the CLA game fair, cant think were though as they change it each year, I used to shoot a lot at Kingsbury near Tamworth on the military range, the whole place is like stepping back in time to the 50s!

I'm often not bothered by threads going off topic, but this is not helping people looking for info about these saxophone brands.
Start another topic about guns by all means, but as long as it doesn't get into political discussions about gun lobbying etc.

Well, I'm back from hols and the BW is here.

They're not identical, but very close. The BW has a longer crook, some slightly differently finished parts.
BW needs two mechanical adjustments (which I can do), and I found one on the Carmichael from looking at the BW.
More to come....

Not wanting to ignite anything here, but shouldn't the title be changed, otherwise it looks like a statement and you have to get to the fifth page to discover it isn't so.

I thought that after the first post, and I made in clear in post 4 that the statement is very likely to be untrue. I spoke to martin of bauhaus, who could have had the thread as it could be considered defamation, but I think he was quite confident that the superiority would be obvious to DavidUK when he actually tried a bauhaus, and it seems he was right. I will just check again with him as he has the right to have the thread removed due to the possibly misleading title.

Changing the title would actually be a pain, every single post would have to be edited. I'd sooner just remove the thread as I agree it does kind of send out the wrong message.

I said different, not superior.
I'd say they were of very similar quality. Not so surprising as the price is identical, £599.
The BW needs adjustment to play properly, as does the Carmichael, but they are both 2nd hand.
Once the BW's sticky G# and two rattley keys have been sorted, and the Crmichael's minor tweak has been done, I'll ask my tutor to play them both blindfolded and see which he prefers. That'll be Thursday week.
As nobody here ever seems to buy a Carmichael I can see why this would be dull for most!
:)

Fixed both. Played both, using Selmer Soloist F and Windcraft Student MPs and a variety of reeds.

I can't call it between them! Taking to Sax tutor Wednesday for his "blind blow" of them both.

BW bell rim has a 3-4mm larger diameter so differences are still showing up.

I'm not sure of the point of this thread, other than for those who find a cheap 2nd hand Carmichael - more likely than a cheap BW.

;}

Went to look at and play a BW tenor today and took my Carmichael along to compare.

They are IDENTICAL. Same EVERYTHING bar the logo. Same little "polo mint" logo on the crook. Same pads. Crooks are EXACTLY interchangeable. I-DENT-I-CAL!!

No, not similar.... EXACTLY the same.

Play the same too (to my ear, with Selmer Soloist MP & Marca Jazz reed).

Needless to say, I didn't bother to buy a BW!

:)
Hello David I've just seen your post on the Carmichael saxophones I'm thinking of buying a Carmichael tenor, would you say they are a decent instrument cheers charlie

Can't recall what I paid for my Carmichael, certainly less than £100. At that price, for a beginner, it is an OK buy.

But for a more advanced player I'd say there might be something lacking and a better horn would be required.

My tutor seemed to like it at the time iirc, and he plays tenor professionally as his preferred instrument.

There are plenty of very cheap saxophones out there that are "OK" but you often take a big gamble unless it is a reputable well known brand that has good quality control.
