Saxophones Can you tell what it is yet? New purchase...

Thanks for your input @JayePDX you have some very valid points there.

When I first received this sax I have to be honest in thinking it was related somehow to CA Wunderlich, I guess this was partially because I have a CF Ref 25 trumpet and it has all the traits of the Wunderlich and almost identical to The Arigra Exakta (Anton Riedl) or some of them anyhow, that trumpet is gold plated, hammered bell, art deco valve block, it oozes quality but whomever buys it in the end shall need some strength due to the weight of it. But proof enough that Chas Foote imported from all over Europe, I wonder if he did import globally? Lord help us if he did!

Anyhow, I searched through the Wunderlich alto saxes and found a lot of similarities, but nothing solid, http://bassic-sax.info/blog/?p=34269 I have also seen a Holton alto with very similar G# mechanism though a Paul Buescher also has amazing similarities, but again, nothing exact, that pinkie table of the Geunot is very similar if not identical, that particular sax also had rolled tone holes and the unusual octave mechanism, and I know you say that the feet do not prove anything, but it was those that made me believe it really was of German manufacture as at first glance it screams Kohlert/Keilwerth.

But at the moment I have to agree with @kevgermany in that the engraving is a strong link, that is itself identical in the style of the Guenot, even the Paul Buescher is very similar so I am having to stay with french at the moment.

I agree @DavidUK that pinkie table is also identical, thje guards with the fult bumper integrated and what do you know, a very similar G# trill, shame about the guard feet though but wow, that is great.

Another similar Thibouville Lamy here: Thibouville Lamy Alto Saxophone ~ Antique c.1878-1900 | United Kingdom | Gumtree

Similar key AND octave key here Melissa, and it's a Holton (and a red herring?)...

I saw this one earlier and I also thing Red Herring, but shows how makes copied each other from around the globe.

Digression: David....that odd diagonal-spined Pierret is the Sylvester saxophone, just FYI. Uwe Steinmetz knows a lot about these, apparently a chap subcontracted Pierret to make a saxophone with some redesigned key mechanisms. I have never seen one in person, although one did appear FS on Seattle Craigslist (3 hours north of me) briefly. Unfortunately, I didn't have the $ to purchase it s never took the drive to see it.

Melissa...yeah, I initially went on the Germany tack but then revised my own comments once I got my head on straight. I think a likely manufacturer would be one who also has part-ribbed construction and similar post feet, is all.

The Thibouville....not a bad call, it is in 'the family' of the mystery horn; although again here I would say the pinky tables are quite different, the Low C spat on the mystery horn shows that complicated curve down from touch to barrel, the octave mech on the Thibouville seems to have a very long singular rod, and the side Bb's of the two are dissimilar (one being a 1-piece rocker mechanism a'la an LH palmkey, the other being an independent rocker keycup activated by the separate but touching lever-style key). Then the pinky C# barrel terminates right on the ferrule on the mystery horn, while it terminates below the ferrule, on the bowpiece, on the Thibouville...

Granted not all makers kept their details the same (Martin, for example used both types of side key mechanics on various horns of the same era).....but these are the things which my eye looks for....

I am not adverse to the idea that she is French. This is one Good puzzler.....!
