At least for that; i have a basic pair of ear buds on the practice stand - for metronom and backing tracks. With added advantage of being ear defenders. My metronome and tracks are on a tablet with sheet music etc. Tidy.

Poor Alistair, he's from my neck of the woods too. I wonder if he ever got backing? Problem is it depends on mouthpiece manufacturers altering their designs to incorporate his reeds. I wonder if there's any mileage in creating a specific beginners mouthpiece with a reed guide? Just a ridge that stops it slipping...

Sure. But something like MobileSheats on a big, cheep (the demands on CPU and memory are very low) android tablet (there's an equivalent on apple) keeps everything organised and available. With built in metronome & MP3 player or metronome app - things get organised and convenient very quickly.
As far as i know, a Kindle Fire, yes. A Kindle eReader, no.
