Hi ,
Sorry if it seems that I am repeating woowar's question but mine is slightly different.

Should I buy new Trevor James or used Yamaha Yas-62 MkII alto?

Thoughts appreciated.

Around £600-£800 difference between new and used. Pro and intermediate.
Is it worth the hassle of buying used then having to get a repair man to assess issues then pay for repairs?
The MkII are getting to 20th year I think.

Used buying at that end of the market kind of unsettling. I'll keep me out for used 62 but deals for the Trevor James are tempting. Here we go again :confused2:

Couple of options. Pay a premium and buy your sax from a dealer, with a warranty, so you have peace of mind. Or, buy it privately, and get it sorted by a reputable repair person. YAS62s are well built and designed for pro use, and are tough.

If you think this is a hassle, then buy a new TJ. I wouldn't, as I think the YAS62 is a great sax, and in good order will be all the alto you'll ever need. There is nothing wrog with the TJ SR, they own their own factories in Taiwan, ad do a final checkover in the UK, which all helps them control quality throughout the supply chain. I just don't think it's anything like as good as the YAS62.

BTW, how long have you been playing? If you're a newish player, you can take an experienced player along to view a sax and see what they thinnk. Most serious issues are pretty much immediately obvious to an experienced player.

Returning after 26 years, beginner 8 months in. Started off with a cheap Chinese sax to see if I would stick with it.
Definitely will be continuing playing got the bug again Paul Desmond has made me concentrate on alto even though the music I like mostly played by tenor. But I do play my tenor every now and then.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
