Hi,

I have the opportunity to buy a Yamaha tenor SNo: 6654.
It would go for €1098,- and has just been overhauled (new pads, corks, felts)
It says that is has been used quite heavily, with lots of scratches (don't care about that...)

I could also return it within 14 days...

So I am asking the Purple logo experts if they have to say something about that.

Thanks!

Günter

1100 Euros for a Tenor 61 or 62 Purple Rat doesn`t sound a lot so long as it`s been serviced, plays beautifully and the Pads are all OK .......

Is it a 61 or 62 because there are 21 and 32 Purple Logo horns as well

Hmm, it says that it`s been full refurbished , new pads, corks etc . the photos are overexposed so I can`t see if it`s got a pressed Yamaha logo , certainly no purple Logo remains, it has the Mk2 Bell Mount and split guards but I don`t know if the Tenor had these from the start , the Alto has the same one piece guard and simple bell mount as the 61 .

So long as it is a Mk1 and its been serviced Properly and plays well I`d say it was worth the cash , I`d offer E1000 but it looks like a Mk2 to me . if it is a Mk2 , I`d pay a bit more for one in considerably better condition ..

Hi,
please look at the 2nd picture, where you can see the "rest" of the Purple logo.

Cheers,
Guenne

Struggling to see it but I think I can see a bit of A and M , I checked and it would seem that the Tenor 62 got the separate bell key guards and U Brace at the MK1 stage? so it looks pretty good then ......

Looks good. Long drive for you. At least one cork (on a key foot) isn't new. I'd buy it if I were you.

Some interesting saxes there, including an original pre Selmer A Sax sop. And a Beuscher C sop...

There's a Beaugnier made Vito as well, but marked made in USA-so maybe they got that one wrong.

Hi Kev,

I have already bought it.
As shipping is free and I can return it within 14 days (shipping then at my cost, which is ok) there is no risk I think.

Cheers, Guenne

Viel Spass!

Hi,

I have recorded some files with the horn, and I had fun.
The horn plays great IMHO, I could have put it together and play a gig with it.

The overhaul does not have a "Stephen Howard-quality", but it is ok.
I think I will show the horn to my saxdoctor next week, as I may have overlooked some flaws.

Cheers,
Guenne

if the set up is all in order, it should sound a treat - it looks heaps better then my 30 yr old '62, which is green, sctratched and almost lacquerless - but to me is pleasure to play, and seems to sound better the more battered it gets

Thanks Davey, i`ts easy to tell with the Altos but the tenors look very similar , I checked SH`s review and even he said there was buggerall difference in the tenors . it`s ages since I played a Mk1

LOL that explains why the "Purple Rat" Alto sounds so good then . it`s a right heap ! :D

Just look at the left hand pinky table, its a MK1, that's the way to know straight off.

Hi,
I am not at home right now.
Took some pictures this morning, can you tell by this one?

Thanks, Guenne
