Writing a Score

I have a score that is written in E Flat Major or C Minor, 3 Flats for Voice and Piano, 3 Staves.

I want to rewrite it so that the Voice is in the correct key for Tenor Sax and the Piano can be played by pianist as accompaniment.

I know how to use a notation program i.e. Finale or Harmony Assistant.

Is it possible for anyone to tell me how to do this.

What I need to know is what do I write each stave in.

Hope that makes sense.

If you can import the score into one of your programs you need to get the software to transpose just the tenor line to 'F' one flat.

If not rewrite the score with the piano part in Eb as written and the voice/tenor part in 'F'

Chris..

Thanks for the advice guys
Just having a bit of difficult in writing on the same sheet 1 stave in 1 key and the Piano in another. I assume thats what I have to do.
I appreciate the Tenor plays 1 whole tone up, but I really want the score to all be on one sheet.

you should be able to type the voice in as it is in the original, then transpose that line only. With any luck, changinf the instument from voice to tenor sax will do the transposition for you.

on Musescore, I think there is a toggle button to display in concert pitch or "instrument" pitch.

if you have it set to the instrument pitch, you can enter the notes as the sax would play them.

maybe your music package has the same type of toggle button?

Very useful advice, but the problem is just transposing one stave, . I can't figure out how to select just the melody stave and change that.
The actual transposing is not a problem.
I have been using Harmony Assistant as I find it so user friendly. I do use Finale as well but that is not so easy.

I can't assist with your package as I use Sibelius. I would think that you can change the melody instrument, which will automatically tranpose? Or, you can select the melody line and transpose it through a menu somewhere? You can do both in Sibelius.

Write everything in the original key
On Finale, in the staff mode, double click the tenor staff and select "staff transposition" then "Bb M2 up" or "Bb M9 up"
You can choose to "display in concert pitch" while you write

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
