Ligatures Windcraft AMW601 Student Tenor mouthpiece - Ligature help

Bought one from Dawkes: dead link removed

Great for a beginner, but the only ligatures I have from the Russian Tenor and Carmichael Tenor don't go far enough onto it to allow the reed to sit properly.

My sax tutor tried a Selmer lig this morning which was fine, but apart from shelling out on one of those, what other low cost option would you recommend? I think I should stick with metal?

I'll call Dawkes in a bit and ask their advice too. They will hopefully be able to test fit a lig their end as the Windcraft seems a bit fatter than the other two tenor mouthpieces from aforementioned saxes.

Thanks to TomMapfumo for the Marca Jazz 2 1/2 reeds. They are great! Better perhaps when the lig fits properly. By the way Tom, I thought I was buying the Windcraft 'Etude' mouthpiece, as I was just looking for the cheapest Windcraft MP but have since found that the Etude is far more expensive at £52:
I'm happy with the cheapo version, but did I get my wires crossed as to what you were recommending?

David - Dawkes will give you a 10% discount if you "recommend" a product and write a small review. I do this all the time. Sam (manager) is fine with this. Write a review for the Windcraft, you then get sent a code and Sam accesses the code and discount online.

Done.
Sam at Dawkes has found me a Rico lig which fits perfectly, and cap (I need an extra one) for £13-ish posted.
Great service and so helpful.

I have never played the Windcraft plastic tenor mouthpiece so could not recommend it. To get an ebonite mouthpiece for £50 is incredibly good, and I like both the Etudes. I have tried the Windcraft plastic alto and thought that it was pretty good, but not to Etude standard. For me one decent Tenor Sax and one decent tenor mouthpiece would be preferable to a random pile of nonsense.

If you want "...far more expensive...." then get a Theo Wanne or Guardala mouthpiece - £50 is superb value!

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
