Where to source felts etc

Apologies if this topic has already been raised and answered at some point.

I wondered if anyone could suggest where I could source felts.

My new curved soprano has developed a problem with the felt stop for the Eb tone hole cap which means I'm getting metal on metal clicks when I play a bottom (or middle) Eb.

I know some of you guys do your own maintenance so I wonder if you could recommend a supplier (bearing in mind I'm not looking for quantity)

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Thomas, before you go buying felt, you may want to make sure 100% its the felt thats causing the noise. It could be the key cup hitting a screw on a key guard or the key guard itself, or the screws holding the keyguard to the body could be loose. It could also be the felt bumper regulator ( most modern saxes the felt bumpers are housed inside a threaded cylinder- this can become loose) and can sometimes be remedied by a little oil.

you can usually screw the bumper regulator(holding the felt) with an appropriately sized screwdriver, further in to remedy the clicking, but be aware if there is insufficient venting, the note will sound flat or muffled.

you can get supplies from here: http://www.windplus.co.uk/supplies/felt_items.html

let us know how you get on.

Many thanks for all of the advice/suggestions guys. I plan to delve into the Haynes manual over the weekend and have a go at getting to the felt buffer to check exactly what's gone wrong.
