Flutes etc. What's he playing ?

At the Capstone gig I attended on Monday night one of the bands 'Engine room favorites' the Alto, Sop player also played this instrument I've never seen one before...what is it ?

I was going to describe it as a 'recorder on steroids' so that would seem right 🙂

Looks like a "knick" bass recorder - here's a link to a Yamaha plastic one. You can of course get very expensive wooden ones... but the Yamaha plastic ones take a lot of beating.

The kink in the 'knick' bass is to bring the instrument closer. The alternative is to do what Chris's photo suggests, which is to have a crook (like a bassoon does).
