Ligatures What Ligature do you USE with a PPT Metal Tenor Mouthpiece?

At the risk of being thrown into the briar patch, I just have to ask...

I have just ordered a metal PPT 8* tenor mouthpiece and I suspect that I will need a new ligature for it. (I have ligs for fat ebonite pieces). I know that there are ligature and PPT threads on this forum but I never know if they are referring to the beautifully tapered PPT Onyxite or the slim and wonderful Brushed Gold - which is what I have ordered.

I recall that Pete's shop suggests a Rover Ligature but I have seen threads where people put their hand to their forehead and say "Rovner on a metal mouthpiece? Oh how could you?"

So guys, anyone using a PPT Metal Tenor Mouthpiece or the similarly shaped ebonite, what ligature do you USE? And where can I buy one?

(Puts on thorn proof clothing, in case of briar patch flinging)

I have used a Rovner on metal mouthpieces for alto, C Mel, tenor and baritone for years. What is the perceived problem with doing so?

Don't know - its just something I have read on this site - somewhere. Do you use a PPT metal Tenor by any chance?

I use a PPT silver mouthpiece on tenor and a Rovner Light L13. I did use a Brancher for a while, but found it scratched the soft metal, not a problem but I wanted to keep the mouthpiece unscratched. (possibly a bit tight depending on reeds)

(That's the one in the James Carter PPT clip)

I have also used a Selmer 404 (may be discontinued and also possibly a bit tight depending on reeds)

Rovners or similar on most of my mouthpieces (metal, ebonite, etc.). Standard 2 screw metal ones on the rest.

Ah- so metal PPTs are 'fat metal' size (the same as Otto Links and V16s). Handy to know....

I am sure you are right but how have you worked out that they are "Fat Metal" size? Is there a "Fat Metal" tick box that I can use when ordering?

Ah- its my personal way of thinking about it- Rovners for metal mouthpieces- come in 3 sizes- M1,M2 and M3 (which is obviously easiest to think of as small, medium and large). Based on what Pete's saying anything that fits on a metal Otto Link should do the job....

Hey!
I've seen that this has been a topic a few times and I have read through the previous threads, but I couldn't find an answer.
What I'm looking for is a metal ligature, preferably with a single screw for my metal PPT 7* (awesome mouthpiece btw.). I had a nice brass BG one that could barely fit, but I had to unscrew it all the way and pretty much force it on. Naturally it broke. Now I would like to find something that actually fits right. Problem is, that music shops around me don't have much to choose from, so I will have to order something online and for that I need to know exactly what fits. Name, model, size!? Any experiences with F.Louis? BG? Vandoren? (not a big fan of Vandoren actually, but still...) etc?

This doesn't have to become a thread about what ligatures are better. I like metal ligatures with one screw because I'm an idiot who when faced with something different gets mixed up and can't place the reed properly :) (sad but true)

Thanks in advance for your help!

EDIT: It's a tenor mouthpiece

Maybe Rovner ligs fits your PPT metal tenor? I play a Rovner Deep-V meatal and the form/shape of mouthpieces seems to be close. Look at the chart below. Are PPT metal mpc's made completly from scratch or are they "blanks"? Mesure your PPT metal and send the mesurments + picture to Rovner. PPT mouthpieces are not on thier lists.

Yes the way you can choose, online, a lig of the right size is to say what mouthpiece you use, but PPT doesn't appear on the lists (e.g. at sax.co.uk)

If we could say that a metal PPT was identical in external diameter and rake to a particular Jody Jazz or a Lakey, for instance, it would make life easier
