Reeds What is wrong with Rigotti?

Hey guys,

this whole rant is about Tenor reeds!

I love the sound I get with Rigotti Gold reeds, but in the last 2 packs I ordered, the tip was cut so angled/slanted, that it is almost impossible to align the reeds with the mouthpiece.
They still play ok, but it just triggers my ocd pretty hard and I find it actually quite preposterous, that these pass any quality control.
You can easily see that the tips are uneven just by taking a quick look.
Are they not even aware of these obvious production errors?

Anyhow, fast forward:
I ordered some (3) Boston Sax Shop Black reeds (also manufactured by Rigotti) and loved them very much.
The tips were cut even and perfectly perpendicular to the main axis like they should be.
Ordered a pack of 10 because I thought I found my new Reeds for life.
3 of the 5 I tried so far have slanting tips!
I'm speechless...
No Vandoren or D'Addario reed I ever had, had an uneven tip. And all of these are cheaper than Rigotti.

Am I just very unlucky or has anyone here had the same experience?

Are you saying the BSS reeds also include some defective? I would certainly contact them about this.

I have sone BSS reeds and they are great.

Have you contacted rigotti about it?

Jx

Having met some of the RIgotti team I’m sure if you contact them with some evidence of bad product slipping though they will make it right.

Same is true of BSS. I’ve opened 4 boxes of BSS reeds in blue and black and all of the reeds have looked good.

I’ve opened dozens of Ishimori reed boxes and they have looked great as well.

At least in my experience the OP’s experience is an anomaly.

Imo if you haven’t contacted RIgotti first I think it’s rather poor form to complain about it here without giving them a chance to make it right to begin with.

Thanks @everyone for the replies and sorry for the late answer!
I will contact them if you say there is a chance to achieve something.

If anything, I'd like them to sell a good product that I'm happy to buy 🙂

It was 2 Boxes of 10 Rigotti Gold within half a year where every single reed had a slanted tip.

And the BSS reeds I bought some months later and half of them are flawed in the same way.

But you are right, I posted this in anger and should have contacted the manufacturers first.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
