Rock & Pop What instrument is the lead guitarist playing?

Two questions - is it different to a guitar?
Does an oboe have similr fingering to a sax? Are they difficult to play or easier to play if you can play sax?

Looks a bit like a cittern, or possibly a bandora...

Double reed instruments are as I understand it, harder to play and are fussier about embouchure....

The oboe, unlike the clarinet, never benefitted from having its keywork modernised to the Boehm system. They're not world's apart, but...

And then you've got the double reed/tight embouchure/high lung pressure to deal with.

A friend teaches oboe and accordion. Funny how similar they can sound. What really surprised me is how natural the oboe can sound playing Bandoneon parts from Piazzola.

I didn't find blowing the bassoon a great challenge really , people seem a bit leery of double reeds, I just found a couple that worked and played with 'em without fussing too much..... after saxophone I thought the bassoon as a thing to play was fairly intuitive, ..although of course you've got bass clef to deal with and the named notes are under different fingers !

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
