Tried it quite a few years ago.

Seemed to make reeds act as though they were softer (and maybe a bit brighter). So the initial reaction was positive, but then I found that the reeds would wear out much quicker, which makes sense I suppose.

For me it's easier and better to get the right reed model and strength and then just play that.

But if you have a few hard or dead reeds cluttering up the place, give it a go.

This is a really old post by Bootman (an Aussie). My results are the same as Rhys. Wonder if Bootman still recommends this?

I think drilled reeds are brighter. I have a box from the 50's. For some years ago Saxgourmet also sold drilled reeds.
