I haven't seen a single video in the series that wasn't top notch, and uplifting watching how much the players were into it!

Good rhythm section and great playing. However, something not quite right about the tempo imo
As luck would have it I've just sent the link to that jam session to the other members of Dunoon's premier resident jazz outfit, the Jack Ruby Five, precisely because it has a different feel to the original, which ought to give us food for thought

I really like the Mongo Santamaria version as well as Herbie's original. For me, the funk version in the studio jam loses something of the essence of the song.

Yes, there are many versions at different tempos. I think this one is great.

Whenever I play Watermelon Man these days I usually try to slip in a riff or two from the Studio Jams version. Great stuff!
