Wanted - Yamaha yts 21 tenor sax side Bb key ( not the lever)

I bet they're as rare as hens teeth knowing how reliable the yams are, it begs the question what happened to the original key, did some amateur restorer end up losing it.Good luck in your search I think your going to need it .....John

Cheers John.
Well I bought it on flea bay a couple of years ago and it had a couple of large dents a few posts had come off and the side Bb key was missing. I've de dented it - except for a minor flat spot on the bow, resoldered the posts and I'm repadding it at present. I did have a guy in the US who said he'd post me one from his junker pile - but it never materialised and I can't find the email I sent him :-( if push comes to shove I'll make one and get it nickle plated.

What about one from other horns (23, 25, 275 etc) ? . have you tried Yamaha UK, they`re great for keeping spares adinfinitum , I got a part for a 70s Monosynth decades after , they officially only promise to keep parts for 10 years for stuff but they don`t tend to throw things away .. worth a go .

My 21 is an alto so my key won`t be any good to lend you to copy but that must be the next step ..

Anyone got a YTS21 to lend the key for a week so Griff can copy or match it up (or close enought to mod) with a chinese Yamaha clone own

Sorry Griff can't help, but maybe you should extend the search to Japanese Vitos, if it's not identical it should be a very close match. I bet there's probably lots of ex school horns somewhere in someone's junk yard!

I have an assortment of tenor sax side Bb keys. If you can send me the diameter of the tonehole, the distance from the center of the hinge tube to the inside slot of the side key lever, and the distance from the inside of the hinge tube to the edge of the tonehole I may have one that would fit. Also the distance between posts would be helpful as well.

Hi John, thanks for your kind offer of help ( I havent got any tenor junkers 🙁)
The diameter of the tonehole is 20mm.
The distance from the centre of the hinge tube to the inside slot of the side key lever is 23mm ( not fussed if its a but short ( the YTS 21 had a pin and drum mechanism a bit like the ball on some mk 6s)
The distance from the inside of the hinge tube to the edge of the tonehole is 40mm.
The distance between posts is 18mm.
NB there is only 8mm of clearance between the 12 o clock position of the tonehole and the C side key lever above it, so the key cup ideally should be inbetween 30mm and 36mm in Diameter.

Again thanks for your help on this one - once Ive got those MOP rollers ( waiting for collection in Sri Lanka) I'll send you a set for that Conn alto you kindly sent the measurements for. 😉 Also let me know what you want for it and postage.

Regards
Griff.

All you need now Griff is the plastic thing to go on the end of the key, probably the same as the alto etc, not hard to make , Yamaha may actually have those
