Right, I arrived back home last evening, after avery traumatic time with the car, which after an expensive one night stay at a hotel(98 euros, breakfast not included!), was a tyre problem!
So now I can own up to the deception surrounding my GAS attack!
When I went to Madrid a couple of weeks ago, I was taken (forcibly you understand) to a bar that had a number of old saxes hanging on the walls. There were two tenors (one nickel plate and one with not much lacquer), an alto that had seen better days and the object that became the start of my GAS attack - a Beaucher bari, hanging precariously above the doorway!! Egged on by the other guys I started to ply the bar owner with the usual "Crow blarney" and copious amounts of booze. Anyway to cut a long (boring) story short, I convinced him that it was in a very dangerous position, and it would be better if he sold it to someone who would be prepared to spend hundreds of euros on it to get it back in playing condition. He wouldn't accept 50 euros, but gave in to my 100 euro offer. I mean, as there was no mouthpiece, I was going to fork out for one and it was going to fall on someone wasn't it!
When I got it home, my good lady copmplained that it wasn't the Venus "A" sax that I had been hankering after, and as we were coming over to the U.K. why didn't I try and sell it to my tenor playing Spanish mate, and then buy a "Venus".
Thanks to you lot, I bought the Venus before selling the Beaucher!! On the way to collect it, I called in to my favorite shop, "Woodwind & Brass" to pick up a few bari bits, only to find Stephen "Haynes" Howard there. Not wanting to get any preconceived ideas, I didn't mention where I was going (sorry Stephen!). Having got the sax home yesterday, I played it with the Chinese reed supplied (after ATG treatment

) and it played well from top to bottom. Then I used an UNTREATED Fibracell 2, with fantastic results (sound clip to follow). In my opinion this sax is worth much more than the £1050 asking price :welldone.
To show how pleased I am with it, last night I sold the Beaucher to my mate for the 100 euros I paid for it
John.
