Hiya

Wonder if there is a VAT charge if i buy things from EU countries?

Cheers

tom.

Ahh, VAT, she is a cruel mistress.

Yes, payable in EU. And many EU countries have VAT rates of 22.5%:(

Tom
No, you pay whatever VAT/sales tax is applicable in the EU country you buy it from as part of the goods' price. You don't pay a second tax when it arrives here.

EU countries only require a VAT registered company to add VAT when selling within the EU, any export outside the EU there is no VAT.

If they are sending an item abroad they don't charge VAT. Also if selling locally to a customer who is going to take that item outside the EU (e.g. a tourist) they can also not charge VAT, but usually require proof that it is to be taken outside the EU.

It makes sense to not paying VAT twice.

Just realise that many things at Thomann are much cheaper.

All prices inclusive of VATs

------------------------------Thomann-------Sax.coo.uuk--------How much extra
Meyer alto MPC----------------£98-------------£129.99-----------------30%
Vandoren jumbo MPC---------£76-------------£128---------------------68%
Vandoren optimum------------£74-------------£128---------------------73%
Selmer II tenor----------------£2960----------£3451--------------------16.5%
T901----------------------------£1556----------£1832--------------------17.7%

Thomann also provide 30 days money back guarantee, good for those who wanna try a few mouthpieces (just pay P&P)

I think the price difference comes fromt he lack of support from Thomann - no shops, relatively few staff compared to a bricks and mortar shop. But buying over the web, from Japan or another country a long way away, it makes a lot of sense to go to Thomann.

One other issue is warranty support - probably not an issue for a mouthpiece or a box of reeds, but for a sax it's a big issue.

Make sure that Thoman will supply tax free to Japan. AND check import duty&tax/shipping/handling costs before ordering, these can soon eat up the price differences...
