The majority of Selmer Metal Mouthpieces are not very rare or sought after (the very very old ones are, especially for soprano) they are still made to this day.

They are and always were awfully expensive when new but I am afraid that their value changes considerably when secondhand.

They exist in the classic (fluted) and jazz version (smooth) . Mostly very small opening, heavy and very thickly plated.

I have had a couple but wasn’t inspired by the, so I sold them on.

Coltrane played one on Soprano but I already said that the Sopranos are a bit more special.

I agree with all that Milandro says. I had one for sop and it was very uninspiring. I got £75 on eBay for mine a few years ago. I'd guess at a bit less for tenor and alto - maybe in the range £60-£100. You never know, you might get lucky if there are a couple of bidders going against each other, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope. Seems a bit odd given that they cost over £300 new, but I guess it just reflects modern demand.

I think a lot of people bought these as they say Selmer and the word Jazz but I got 1 for free and it was the worst mp I tryed.Best bet is ebay but I've seen many on there get no bids.Agree on the £60.00 to £100.00 thing but more like £70ish.They do look cool though. If I were you i'd do both for £100.00.Your never going to use them so its a sure bet 100 squid in ya hip dude.I'm sure someone would pay that for them as a job lot on fleabay.

Currently play testing a CE Winds Gold Genesis alto piece which is a replica of the Selmer (Paris) Jazz Metal without the over the top price tag - plays rather well.

Next couple of weeks taking delivery of their Dave Guadala Michael Brecker MBI Tribute tenor piece. I'll see how that goes.

Cheers mate.

I know with all the chopping and changing Davey does with his horns and mouthpieces - he has a soft stop for the Dave Guardala Mike Brecker inspired pieces.

Somebody has posted a favourable review of the CE Winds mouthpiece on Sax On The Web.

After playing the sax for 30 years and acquiring my purple logo 62 tenor last year I'm finally having fun playing tenor sax:shocked:

and I thought I was an alto boy...

Kind regards,

Greg S.

A rather optimistic seller, I'm afraid. She's also expecting £750 for a used Taiwanese Elkhart tenor. Perfectly OK sax, but they're only £650 new......

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
