Post Brexit the UK is no longer subject to GDPR, however the same rules apply I believe under the new UK GDPR. So UK and EU citizens rights are fine. US citizens, don't get me started...
And no we don't go around reading them.
We recently heard from someone complaining that Conversations are not private. This happened on account of another member (participant in the conversation) reporting the conversation to admin. This forum, most others and social media allow anyone to report abusive messages. So in practice although one of our rules is that you should not publically post contents of a conversation, if you do receive something spammy, offensive, libellous, fraudulent or even just suspicious you can report it to admin so that we can take action to continue keeping the forum nice. (That's why conversations also have a report button)
In fact we do not say that they are totally private, they are no more nor no less private than PMs on any forum. It's just that we are bit more transparent about that, because we'd hate for someone to accuse us of saying their conversations are private and then get peeved because we banned them after they were reported for sharing illicit porn or if we allow the CIA to see them if we are served with a warrant.
The privacy policy makes it clear about the special (legal) circumstances under which conversations may be made available to law enforcement.
