Trying to record

So, my little MiC arrived - woohoo.

But. I am being very dim and I can't manage to get iRealPro to play my backing, so I can play my sax, and get GarageBand to record the two.

I have managed to record the saxophone, but no backing track, though I could hear the backing track playing through my earphone.

Then I found the 'iRealPro' input button on GarageBand and switched that on but that didn't work. And now iRealPro won't play at all. Even when I unplug everything and try to just play it on its own like it used to. Aaaarrgggghhhh!

Can anyone help?

I'm using:
An iPad2, GarageBand, iRealPro and an Apogee MiC.

Edited to add:
Maybe it can't take two inputs at once. Perhaps I have to record one and then the other over the top?

I did it!

With about fourteen redundant steps no doubt, and will I be able to do it again. But still, I got me and the backing track playing back together. It sounds very horrible

Notes to self: Tune to iRealPro before starting next time. And do something about a better reed. And keep practising.....!!

I always hate a recording when I've just done it. I've got out of the habit of erasing them straight away. When I come back to them after a week or two I'm sometimes surprised and impressed with myself. This months BotM is a typical example for me. It sounded really bad to me at the time but when I listened today it sounded acceptable and quite interesting.

Don't be too hard on yourself and just use it as a tool to judge your progress. Sometimes hearing how you played can inspire you and give you ideas.

Thank you 🙂 Ha, it's in an entirely different league from yours! But then I suppose I have only been playing for 6 months.

It will certainly help me improve, since I can hear exactly what I sound like, in a way I can't when I'm playing. So I can hear clearly what needs to change.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
