I have only just found out about this alto player through a friend and I had been looking for more alto players to listen to . I must say I love his playing he has an amazing tone and great ideas . Can someone recommend some good albums by tony kofi as I'm just on the road to learning about him and could do with a guide :) .

Silent Truth is very good. If you get a chance to see him it'll be well worth it. Nice chap too.

Hi NIck cheers I will go and grab that album . I had a look on his web page and noticed quite a few gig dates I would like to go to the crypt to see him looks like a great club :)

It was if you knew what he was talking about as a lot of the theory goes wayyy above my head
Still enjoyable all the same :)

Well, after a few years of trying to get to one of Mr Kofi’s gigs i finally managed it last week.
I went to Llandudno for the opening gig on the Thursday (with @Royston & @JohnnyFletch)
It was a tribute gig for Ed Burke co-founder of LJF, who passed away in January.
Seriously talented musicians was on show, Sara Oschlag, Dean Masser, Neil Yates, Dan Shepard, Andy McKenzie etc and of course Tony Kofi

Possibly the best jazz gig I’ve attended, it’s definitely up there with the best !
Anyhow i was mesmerised every time Tony took to the stage and played, such a great player with a fabulous tone.
He dedicated Isfahan to (Ed) played solo and it was a joy to listen to.
(Best i could find)

Nice chap too.
Most definitely, spoke to him afterwards about his sax a King Super 20 which is only 3 digits away from the one owned by Charlie Parker ! (could Parker have played it before choosing his own ?)
Amazing player and also a nice chap

I used to see him play in Nottingham before he got a scholarship to one of the Music schools in the States,. After a very half hearted performance playing to a very small audience one evening I quoted Louis Armstrong to him ( I think it was a satchmo quote anyway) It was something along the lines of , if there is one person in the audience he will still play his heart out. He didn't really talk to me after that

He must’ve taken it in, every tune was played with enthusiasm in abundance !

Ps. He may have been ill on the gig you saw him and that may have been the ‘best’ performance he could muster ;)

It's a nice thought that I could have had a tiny influence, but I doubt it very much
