Saxophone beginners Timing on Baker Street

Hi guys
Im having trouble with my timing
Im playing baker street with a couple of musos at an open mic night soon so im still learning the timing but I have the riff down.
the problem is I cant decifer his piano version of the song well enough to time my starting point.
I can count in the bars but theyre trying to teach me to understand the tune so I wont have to do that.
can any one give me some direction here.

I know what you mean - it's difficult trying to play it with a different version as you know the original so well, what I do (was ordered to do!! 😉 ) is play the synth/flute intro part, so that when I go into the main riff they have to follow me

hey Taz it couldn't hurt....... I think their Idea is to try to teach me to hear the rythym of the song so that I know when to come in no matter how it was played.
