Tim Garland

I went to listen to Tim's Lighthouse trio last night - they are in the middle of a world tour and, thankfully, came through Bangkok.

Last time I saw him live I was a student in Nottingham and he was playing with Lammas (15 years ago already).

I was so worked up after seeing the band last night I couldn't sleep. Finally dozing off at 3.30. Feeling a little bit tired now!

Great band, great sax player.

Yes he live's not to far from me.Seen him a few time's and he's fantastic, well that's why Chick Corea pick's him.His kid's are school friends with my best mates kid's and i have done a class with him,his wife and kid's for a special needs music class me and my mate ran for a while. He was on the keyboard with the kid's and i walked in with my tenor and thought OH MY GOD it's Mr Garland,i played the class and he came across asking about my mp,sax etc. He's a nice bloke.Fantastic player.

I had a chat with him in the break, and like you say Dave, he's a very nice bloke. That also came across when he was playing and his enjoyment of music and playing - he was jumping up and down (yes, more or less pogoing) during the first tune!

The music and emotion seemed to flow out of him, and they were playing some strange time signatures!

I loved his tenor sound - he was playing a Borgani. The horn sounded very soft and dark, I'm not sure what the mouthpiece was.

Dave, did you ever considering walking out when you saw Tim Garland on the piano?!

I was dreading playing, every note i played i thought i bet you he think's that's crap.I did not enjoy me just playing,if he had been blowing i would have enjoyed it more but a scary jam it was.It was like I AM A GRAIN OF SAND AND HE IS LIKE A MOUNTAIN.

LOL! I had enough trouble using basic words - trying not to stumble over them as I fought to remain calm whilst talking to him.

Trying to play sax while he was right next to you must have been terrifying - you're a brave man Daveyboy!

Not brave i was just cringing at every note i blew.A time's he would look over and my thought's were HE'S THINKING WHAT THE HELL IS THAT KNACKER DOING.When the night ended i was so glad so i could escape in to the dark depth's of the night like a wounded animal thinking them thought's we all have,I AM GOING TO STOP PLAYING,WHAT'S THE POINT.JUST A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME,WHY DO I BOTHER.I AM ****.SELLING MY SAX TOMORROW.

You're a funny man Daveyboy! I wish I had a pound for every time I had the same sentiments as you've mentioned above.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
