Clarinet The old licorice stick

All this clarinet talk must have planted a nagging seed in my head, to the degree that I've now got one of Boosey & 'awkes finest plastic efforts on the way from evilbay for the princely sum of 30 quid, which allegedly 'plays well'.. which remains to be seen. not that i'll be much of a judge but should be able to get some vaguely musical-ish noises out of it..
All good fun eh..

You should have posted a wanted advert. I would have paid you 15 quid to remove one from my pile:rofl:

At the time I gather B&H was attempting meet a niche in the market for affordable instruments for students. Depending on years, some are decent, some are best avoided due to cheaper metals used in keywork.

It appears they were also experimenting with wood composites (particle board) for their bells on Grenadilla offerings in the Intermediate (Edgware) model.

Out of 3 Edgwares I have, they appear to be from different years with dissimilar body construction. Latest acquisition is all Grenadilla wood. The other two, one needs extensive work, other more or less minor.

It would be good to present your honest assessment. If it only needs minor work, then maybe worth having a tech service it?

Since I now have a mouthpiece that fits my best Edgware, will give me a chance to "try out a legend". 😉

This one is the classic kld's BH Regent in finest plastic, still at least presumably it won't crack
I'll certainly give an assessment though will be from a rough hooligan sax playing ( non clarinet players ) point of view 😉
I'll have it tweaked if needs be provided it's cheap, obviously I could do any simple basic oddments myself.

The B&H 75 is a Bundy 1400. I played one for decades. If you spot a Selmer 1400 it's the same tube with slightly better keywork, but you get a case with Selmer on it. 🤩

Well the B&H Regent arrived, doesn't look bad at all, especially for 30 quid, and came with a Potnoy BP3 mouthpiece which seems to be worth the price of admission on it's own from what I can deduce on 'tinternet.
There was a random reed installed which wasn't exactly an easy blow, substituted it with a soprano reed I had lying around, rico 1 1/2 and that worked much better, I could crudely play a few (very) simple things in the low register, and you can get the low Bb ? so I assume not leaking too tragically. clearly needs a few corks here and there etc. If I can find a place that would do a simple no BS check over and adjust I'd happily bung a modest few quid to get it playing right ..not that I'd know jack about clarinets at this point 🙂
