The Jolly Jazz Quartet

Hey Everyone,

As a saxophonist, I'm into jazz, and have decided (to attempt) to set up a Jazz quartet with a few people I know, and I was wondering if anyone has any links to any books which would contain music for alto sax, piano, bass guitar and drums?

Cheers in advance,
Lewis

Hi Lewis
I think it would be best to get one of the Real Books such as Hal Leonard's or Warner Bros. You can get them in Eb,Bb, concert and bass clef. Choose a few tunes you all like and learn the head. Then get stuck in and fill your boots.
I'm sure there are books written for Jazz quartets but why not just have some fun and do it yourself, you know you can.

Thanks for the help - I've been rediscovering the forum recently. I posted this before I began understanding jazz performance! I thought you could buy music for jazz quartet much like sax quartet music!

If you want to get into jazz performance, I can thoroughly recommend Jazz School UK in Northamptonshire. I wrote a brief review of a day there a couple of weeks ago, somewhere on this site.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
