Good afternoon from a sunny Crete.

Do any of you ladies and gentlemen know of any week/weekend summer schools or workshops suitable for newish, but reasonably competent sax players? There is nothing here, and indeed, sax players seem to be as rare as hens' teeth, at least in the Western end of the island!

I have an occasional lesson from a very lovely man who plays on the cruise ships, and really enjoy playing along with him. Likewise, the guy who teaches me when I'm back in the UK, and I would dearly love to gain more experience by playing along with others.

Thank-you :)

The Clarinet & Saxophone Society's magazine carries details of courses and playdays around the country on a month by month basis. It might be worth your while joining CASS to keep yourself informed.

The XV1 World Saxophone Congress is being held in St. Andrew's this year. It runs from the 10th to the 15th July and will have massed choirs to play with.

I went along to Harrogate Summer School(tutors Andy Scott and Rob Buckland) in 2011 - great mix of ages and abilities, and not half as daunting as I expected! I can't see any details for the 2012 course yet but it is an annual event........

Cheers,

Amanda

Hi SallySax
Trimmy mentioned the StaxofSax workshop earlier in the thread and I think they are excellent (but then again I run them, so I would wouldn't I;}) We have got our next 2 events booked for the Monday the 13th Feb and Wednesday the 11th April. We have had people join us from Essex before. The full details are in the Teaching thread and we have plenty of pictures on the staxofsax facebook page. You could be our first international delegate :)
It would be great to see you
regards
Dave

Thanks for that Dave, but I'm not sure I'm up to standard as I've only been playing since last May.

Will check out the Facebook page and keep an eye out for future events. :thumb:

Hi Sally
Dont worry, if we know what ability people are then Chris will make sure that they have a part then can manage. Inclusion is the name of the game.

I've just come back from a three day Saxophone Ensemble course at Alston Hall in Lancashire. Very similar to the Knuston Hall course, I believe. Alston Hall do two courses per year, and they are due to send out the summer 2012 brochure any time now. I have been on three January courses and they are excellent (same tutors at Knuston Hall this February). Google Alston Hall if you are interested.

Good luck.
