Bought from Woodwind Exchange about 1.5 months ago as "new Old stock" - IE a brand new ex demo sax which they bought in a bulk batch from TJ (the Importer) a few years ago therefore it`s in damn near mint condition and had almost no use ..... this is the Deep Lacquer version with the Nickel key touchpieces .

These are as good as Taiwanese saxes get, the build being as good or better than the top Mauriats or TJs , do a search for threads on them here. the 1500 model has an enlarged one piece bow which gives immense volume and depth , unique easy maintenance rods and solid balanced refined keywork , the case is the Samsonite styled original ..

the horn has a selmer SA80 alike balance (smooth very focussed and smoochy) but like the TJ RAW, really roars when pushed in an un-alto like way . unlike some Taiwanese horns, the Steph is an easy play for beginners as well as a solid horn for Pros to gig - there are two of the cheaper model 1000s in the Maghull Wind Orchestra which have been battling on for years apparently and holding up perfectly.

I`m only selling this because I have a near mint Yamaha YTS-61 in my sights - my own is almost a RAT and tidy ones in original condition are rare, these 61s are around 40 years old so sadly the near mint YTS-32 and this Stephanhouser Alto have to go - to be honest my YAS62 Purple Logo is enough Alto for me and I have a binny Jupiter as a backup anyway and I only gig Tenor (& now Sop )

I`m asking £500 (5% to the Forum) - yes it`s a bit more than David's Vintage finish one but this is basically a new horn - it comes with the original Samsonite case, a Barely used boxed Bari Esprit Mouthpiece (arguably THE starter Mpc out there).. Bank Transfer is preferable but would accept Paypal if the buyer covers the fees - Courier within England and Wales would be about £15 - ask for elsewhere.

Link to the Pics on Dropbox (Pics for the YTS32 Tenor and a BAM case I`m selling are also there)

More to the point I`m a TENOR dude in the main and when a tidy 61 comes a knockin' you gotta sell stuff .... Similar to someone selling their TJ RAW Alto to get the Super-20 / MkVI / 10M / TH&C Tenor they always wanted ..

I may regret selling the Stephanhouser later on (probably will) but that`s life , if I do and there aren`t any for sale, I`ll have to make do with a TJ RAW or hunt to get a proper working SX90R or something .

The great thing about both yourself and David UK having owned a Step 1500 is that you both realise what great horns they are. Mine has suited me better than many other horns and of course, horns are completely subjective.

The Stephanhouser 1500 is worth a lot more than what they get sold for!

Agreed Prof - other "High end Pro" Taiwanese horns feel cheap after the Steph - I rate this thing higher than an £1100 TJ SR in build and refinement . you get your moneys worth in weight alone .

David is on an endless search for the perfect Alto (personally I think he`s found the TWO he ought to keep) .. with me, it`s just that a rare opportunity to upgrade my Ratbag YTS61 to a near minter has presented itself . these aren`t common like MkVIs or USA Classics, even Binny ones are relatively rare .

If anyone is intererested in the BAM Case I have for sale as well , I can do a very nice deal for both the Stephanhouser and the BAM case ..

this horn is such an unknown gem its unreal, and unlike most hidden Gems, a full on Professional instrument capabale of going the distance , I can almost guarantee that once tried you`ll agree ..

Ask me for further proof please as well! These horns are great.

Hokay ..... looks like the BAM Case is heading to Spain ------ time to find this fantastic Pro Alto a new home also ................ Any (sensible) Offers ? . it`s basically new old stock bought from the woodwind dealer (Woodwind Direct) who took the last batch

Well David has sold his matt finish one - this lovely gold lacquer one is still available , last chance to get what is basically a new example of this unique and very powerful Alto .

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
