StaxofSax Playday 29th December 2011

Hi folks

Just to let you know that we have booked our next playday for the 29th December 2011. This is a change to the date on our previous thread which read the 28th. The reason for the change is the people that have been kind enough to offer us the use of the hall in between Christmas and New year (when i should be closed) are on holiday until Wednesday.

The format will be the same as the last event with both large and small ensemble playing and an improvisation session with a seasoned jazz player (possibly Nick Hislam again, to be confirmed)

Its a fun day for players of 12 months and above, with a chance to show of your Christmas sax goodies from Santa. For those of you that are planning your New Years resolutions early, especially the one about doing more practice, this will give your inspiration a much needed kick start.

Cost of the day is £30 per person and is open to individuals and existing groups with a maximum of 20 players for the day.

For every forum member that joins us we donate 10% to Pete's Charity fund raising and on each workshop so far we have made a donation, so come and put a face to a name and have a good blow at the same time.

for more information please contact me on 07736 471861 or staxofsax<<at>>gmail.com

I hope to see some of you there on the day

regards

Dave

Places are going fast with 11 all ready booked. including 3 forum members. Nick has confirmed that he is able to do the jazz session and with a bit of luck Chris will be in good health ready to Rock and Roll.

Its a good day out as you can tell from previous threads and will be a good excuse to miss the Sound of Music repeat this year. So break out a new reed and come and join us for a festive frolic before the New Year doldrums.

you know you want too.!!!

Dave

The day is fast approaching where those that are prepared to stand up and be counted will stand up and be counted. No, not the end of the world, but the StaxofSax Christmas workshop.
We have 6 places left and would love to fill them for the 29th December.
A new arrangement is being completed for the large ensemble section by Chris, Nick is sorting out the parts and scales (sorry didn't mean to swear) for Blue Bossa and the small ensemble pieces are being organised as we speak.
It should be a good fun day with other sax minded people, so don't be shy come and give it a go.
for full details you can pm me or email on staxofsax<<at>>gmail.com
Don't forget for every forum member that attends, we donate 10% of your ticket fee to Pete's Charity
hope to see you there
regards
Dave
ps good opportunity to show of the sax related Christmas pressies!

Hi Martin
Each of the chords represent an arpeggio and a scale so you can use both. some groups of chords can use a scale to use over the whole group (like a 2 5 1 sequence that Nick was talking about). It is a good idea to look at the scales and find notes that appear in each one and use them as a beginning for your improvisation.

There is some very useful stuff on Pete's Taming the Saxophone site. Well worth checking out and ask your teacher for some guidance.

Cheers

Dave
