Saxophones Soprano purchase

Ooops, naughty me. I've done it again. Just purchased my 4th (I think) soprano. I've always been a bit sporadic with sop playing and owned a few but usually got rid of them. For some reason it doesn't register in my head that if I didn't get it right the first, 2nd, 3rd or 4th time, why buy a 5th?!
However, I saw a bargain on eBay - a reasonable sax. John packers 043 curved model in rose brass with the abalone key touches and a decent Rosseau m/p. I got it for a total of £170 so just waiting for it to arrive next week and hope to have some success with it!
Do let me know if there's anyone else who owns and plays one of these etc 🙂

Good for you! I play a curvy sop (not a JP) and love it. I hope you enjoy it when it arrives 🙂

I had one, and loved it - sold on the forum some time ago to a JP convert Yardsale ad here.
I only upgraded to a BW AI as I had the 'money and opportunity' - doesn't usually happen at the same time! I also love the BW but the incremental cost isn't necessarily justified as the JP was a lovely little sax. You got yours at a bargain price - enjoy it!

Cheers,

Amanda

hmmm, the gumtree ad is fishy because this is the very sax I have just purchased but this ad was only posted yday so I'm guessing it's stolen from the eBay listing. The chap I've purchased it from is in Antrim and he has been good with communication so I'm just thinking somebody's nabbed the listing off eBay to scam someone. But seriously tho, they're only asking £80? Why not if they're going to do the job at least do it properly! haha 🙂

Well done, good to hear. Although now I'm not going to be able to get me a great little sop for a silly price ... not that I would have given in to gas anyway of course >:).

Here's a mini review of my JP Sop. It arrived thurs and I played it thurs eve and played it on two numbers last night at my gig. It really is a super little thing for the money I paid. The rose brass gives it a lovely mellow tone AND It's the first soprano sax I've had that has excellent intonation. It really was worth buying. I'm not a fantastic sop player so I can't justify anything more pricey but this has made me happy and I shall be hanging onto it for future gigs and hopefully one day I will be a fantastic soprano player 🙂

Bought one myself 18 months ago and love it. Previously only ever had an alto. Had a book of Dave Koz tunes with some for soprano and so decided to buy a cheap one to see how I got on. I couldn't justify the price of a more expensive one either but this worked out really well. Sounds fantastic to me but then I'm not an expert.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
