I came across this just now - Sonny Rollins and Dizzie Gillespie live. The sound quality is dire, but the music is amazing. Someone ought to start digitally re-mastering some of these live performances on Youtube (in my techno-ignorant way, I don't know if this is possible..) but playing by the rules and paying royalties...

Not sure about the re-mastering of youtube stuff.
But enjoyed the clip all the same.
There's also some grteat clips of the other Sonny (Stitt) with Dizzy floating around.
Particularly the Eternal Triangle.

My ex-wife-to-be got me a CD of Sonny Stitt ('Deuces Wild') partly for its novelty value - it features Rufus Harley on bagpipes soloing on 'Pipin' the Blues'.

Actually the uilleann pipes are the best pipes by far for jazz and blues... the most soulful instrument on the planet... I'd get a fully keyed set (the standard chanter doesn't give a full chromatic range) if I could run to it, which would be even better. S'pose I ought to get round to adding pipes to the bottom of my page thingy...

I think this clip is from the 70th birthday PBS broadcast - http://youtu.be/RLt3my9ZRMU
and - http://youtu.be/8Kxq5p-CuJE
with an all star line up including James Moody, Sam Rivers, Cecil Payne, Benny Carter, Freddie Hubbard, JJ Johnson, Oscar Peterson, Lalo Schifrin etc

Altissimo - many, many thanks! You have found the 'official' version with good sound quality and what I had was a short extract and poor quality at that.

So many greats - a concert from the comfort of my own armchair (or caravan bunk, as it happens) - what a feast!

Thanks again!
