Saxophones someone snagged an ebay bargain!

No cash about at the moment - a Buyers market .. I`m watching a cheap SA80-II at the moment hoping I get it at a good price but it`s everyone Else who gets stuff cheap , not me 🙁 . ............

the seller listing that Purp as "Alto saxophone" shows they`ve got no clue how to list stuff and done no research into what they fetch ...

For some reason 82Zs rarely fetch more than 62s ,they haven`t the same street cred I guess and very mixed opinions about them too - the same will happen with Yani AW01s compared to 901s / 991s - the 991 has the cred , the AW01 sounds like the name of a new Student horn rather than a 900 series replacement .

You should be able to snag a SA80-II for around £1300. I managed to get a real old one for that price a few months back. 🙂

But I mean £1100 fro 82Z - I thought they were supposed to be the alternative to a mk 6?:headscratch:

No Yamaha apart from the original 61 has been cited as an alternative to a MkVI from what I remember.. they are and always have offered a different sound (even the 61 did of course but it was aiming for the same market at the time when few were) ....... the 82Z is 62 keywork on a slightly different body tube for a different sound , some say 62+ some say not as good, whatever, it bears far less resemblance in sound (expected or achieved) to a MkVI than any of the selmer clones and no one expects it to..

I`ve seen plenty of silly listing prices - they don`t sell of course .......... It`s when you see a near mint 61 tenor listed at £1200 week in week out and still there, you know the market is on its arrse

It looked like a shed to me 5yrs old never been out the house and that badly pitted, my 62 is now 14 yrs and looks like new,it might be Z and a cheap price but it's a shed, but that's only my opinion ...John

it`s lke the Ref54 on there now which didn`t sell at £1570 - these horns are less than 15 years old and in that very short time, that one has had more of a thrashing than a lot of 40yr old MkVIs and looks it too , Selmer Lacquer is hideously lame at the best of times so wear & spotting expected there but when the sling ring is worn almost through, you know you`re looking at a horn which will need a full overhaul despite its youth

John you could be right,i saw it and it raised a few concerns for me,"5years old, bought from new, never took out of the home" what has this person done to it to have lacquer loss like it has.
Its clear its still a buyers market and will be for many years to come.
