"So what" intro on 4 baritone saxes

I have always been fascinated by the intro on "So What", played by Bill Evans and Paul Chambers on "Kind of blues record". I read somewhere that this introduction was composed by Gil Evans, who worked with Miles on "Birth of the cool", is it true? Anyway, I pulled down the parts by ear from the record and played on my baritone sax.
