It's not an unknown reason, all sites should be https these days. It won't be the browser adding it but the site redirects.

Working fine here in sunny Califonia. Although showing as ”not secure “ website. Whatever that means.

I also get "not secure" ("inte säker") when I visit some websites. Can it be that the web sites are not using cookies?
No, it just means that the site doesn't have a security certificate or HTTPS (as opposed to HTTP). It's indicated by the padlock with a red line through, or by a 'Not secure' pop up message. For any site where you might disclose confidential information, or any site with an e-commerce function, you're at risk. For a site like Stephen's where you're not buying anything or logging in with a password (you're simply viewing his content) it's not such a big deal.

In some cases (such as where I work, for an NHS trust) all non-secure sites are blocked as a matter of policy.

Well, it is a (sax) porn site

Emailed my host to ask about migrating to https and the reply rather indicates that they can't be bothered - so it looks like I'll have to up sticks and find a more accommodating host.

That's rather sad, surely that means they'll be losing other customers too. Perhaps they're of a mind that anyone who's bothered would have done so already.

I think they're more interested in large corporate clients.
Let them loose a couple big fish. They’ll be knocking on your door.
SHwoodwind International sound big. Get a business card with big title too. Can I suggest COA;)

I've been looking around and it seems that I can get much better value for money (and support) these days - with several companies able to handle the whole migration process in a matter of hours. So once I've got some time on my hands (hah!) I'll switch to a new host and take the site to https.
I don't really need it for my site (no transactions etc.) but I'm aware that some people are unable to view 'insecure' websites.

Nice that you’ve found a good fit for your needs. Paying for customer service that ya can’t get when needed….move on. Lots of decent hardworking people out there.
With the site upgrade you can sell T-shirts and reed cases.
