Sheet Music Sheet music and mp3 downloads

Not sure if this will be news to any one but I thought I would share it anyway. I've found two sources which, stuck out in the back blocks of Indonesia, are really useful to me.

Wikifonia is a great source of lead sheets. They come in C, Bb and Eb and I can print them using a screen capture.

jDownloader is a programme that allows you to download a YouTube video and either download both sound and video or restrict yourself to an mp3 download. I know other programmes will do this but this one seems more reliable and gives you that option.

I'm not sure how "legal" all this is but it's definitely useful!

Wikifonia is indeed excellent. On the right side of the page for the lead sheet is also a facility for transposing up or down 6 semitones, if you don't want the music in its C, Bb or Eb form. There is also a download button, so you can save the music and print it without anything superfluous from a screenshot. Wikifonia says it pays royalties and so on and is legal, though I think kevgermany has previously expressed some doubt about that.

I haven't tried jDownloader, but might have a look next time I'm on computer (I access the forum, Wikipedia etc on my mobile phone).

The other thing about Wikifonia is that you can download the scores in mxml format, which audactiy can edit... No I'm not sure of the legality/copyright here.

Some of the version on wikifonia are 'interesting'....

If you open Audacity before playing the youtube video then you can record straight from the stereo mix of your PC and export as an MP3 file.

Yes it is and it's free, great app. Never tried it with you tube though I will be doing now.

i use wikifonia, great site for some classic songs

Another site is sheetsax.blogspot.co.uk.
Scores are for C, Eb and Bb instruments and backing tracks are on YouTube, so you need a downloader.

I should have added that I use jDownlader on a Mac - I'm not sure if it's available for PC.

Yes, it's available for windows. Website's a bit of a mess, keeps switching languages... But here's a link (for all OSs):

NB, this is a Java app,so you must have Java installed for it to work. There've been serious security issues with Java recently. I believe they're mostly fixed, but download/install/run at your own risk.

Not sure if it's cos I'm in Germany or not, but when you go to install it I got a message in German about installing the Delta toolbar. If you don't want it, click on the 'Erweitert' radio button and remove the ticks from all three boxes there.

It also tries to install the infamous Babylon toolbar, associated with conduit... Don't let this anywhere near your system. Just cancel that one, Jdownloader installs anyway. Frankly, I'm beginning to wonder whether this is a good idea or not.

Very nice site, jdownloader brings the backing tracks a treat, some real nice tunes there, I got a couple of Adele and my favourite Norah Jones.

Been using jdownloader for years and never had any issue with toolbars etc, obviously something they've added in recently like most free software, you've just got to watch for the various tick boxes etc.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
