Shed Full of Blues

Hi Pete, or anyone else that can shed some light on my perplexity!

In the transcription of Shed Full of Blues (Midnight in the Naked City) third page, third line from the bottom, the A7th...

What do the + and o mean over the triplets?

I'm probably showing my ignorance here but if I don't ask I'll never know.

Humm just thought, I should probably just play the CD and follow along and see what you do.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Chris, is this the .pdf 'Midnight Playalongs vol 2a.pdf' ?

My first thought was augmented/diminished chords, but I guess you also thought that and then thought no.... Looks more as if it's done for emphasis, playing the notes with a plus a touch harder than the ones with a °.

I'll pm Pete.

I Kev,

Yes it is the 'Midnight Playalongs vol 2a.pdf', I was trying to work out what I should be working on, that would both be enjoyable and push me, and suddenly realised it was right in front of me all along, well it was seconds after I bought it!

I thought the + and o might be to do with the A7 chord, but as they are over the A's so I ended up thinking it was something to do with that note.

Thanks for PM-ing Pete for me.

I will need to double check but I would normally use those makes to indicate false http://tamingthesaxophone.com/saxophone-false-fingerings.html

A plus sign as part of a chord symbol does indeed mean augmented.

Hi Pete,

Yes I think it must be your false fingering, having never ventured into false fingering (on purpose) I could hear the difference, but had no idea how you achieved it. Thanks for the links. It looks like I need to do a bit of studying and practice on lots of things to be able to play this piece well, but that was just what I was looking for. I hope Vol 2b will be along at some point.

As an aside I think, 'Big' should have been the sound track to 'The Great Gatsby' especially 'Brat Trap' (Bart&Baker Version)

Thank you both for your help, today will be a day of Alto Sax and Classical guitar... not together I hasten to add.

Chris

I just remembered Pete did a youtube video of this one:

The bit I'm talking about is at 2min 41.

And looking at Pete's left hand he is playing the A, and every other note he's adding the right hand 1,2&3. So yep it's false fingering.

All the best,

Chris
