September IOTM Eternal Tones

Oh I might just do that - I'm struggling to get the 3 time free time :(

Start playing the roots of each chord counting 123 123... Focus on the bass.
What might be confusing you, is the 2 over 3 that sometimes the piano plays. The essence of jazz waltz.
It is difficult to explain without manuscript paper but

- think a 2/4 tempo, tap your foot in 2.
- think or sing a crotchet triplet: three notes on two beats
- now revert it: foot in three and think or sing two over three. I am not sure "duplet" exist, but in Italian it is called "duina".

After a while counting 2 or 3 in a bar length will become natural.
The master on the subject? Bill Evans (but Waltz for Debbie could be too confusing).

I hope this help...

Some flattish notes but that's what happens when I have earphones in (tried to redo on Bari but somehow the key change left me unable to improvise... brain trouble.... but I might give it another go)

Great tone and great playing!
Are you in a Dexter phase?

About headphones, try using only one ear, or ideally half open headphones

That's the sort of complement that'll keep me posting IOTMs

Never 'eard of half opens... but now I know what they are they seem like a good idea

Dexter was the first thing that sprang to mind as well Ivan.
Great version, full of great lines and tone.:thumb: You took my
simple tune and made it your own, nice one:thumb:

Chris..
Aw shucks Chris

Any similarity to real jazz players alive or pushing daisies is coincidental

However thanks again for writing such a lovely tune

I had the same problem with headphones and tried substituting those little earpieces you get with an IPod. That works quite well because you can hear the backing track as well as you own playing. But they keep falling out, my ears are the wrong design for them......

I guess September just passed too quickly. :)

@aldevis Where's Octobers IotM everyone's waiting:)

Chris...
He's on the run from CaSLM

Anyway Chris you're so good at composing lovely tunes. Are you sure there isn't the nugget of a riff nestled somewhere along the line between brain and Band in a Box?

I would volunteer but my incompetence with the written note is lamentable

Ivan there probably a tune in there somewhere, it's just I like to run things past Aldevis first as it might not be going in the right direction to help guys with there improvisation. Leave it with me and I'll have something for later on>:) Hmmm!! now where that book on modes:rofl:
