Separating Left & Right Channels

I have some mp3 files with solo instrument on left channel and rhythm section on right channel. I want to save the files with rhythm section only. Is there simple free software which will do this for me?

Audacity is free software that will do this for you.

Open the track in Audacity and then go to the track header and select "Split Stereo Track". You can then delete or mute the track with the solo instrument and make the other track mono so it doesn't just come out of the right channel.

You can play it in Audacity or export it as a new mp3 track.

Good luck.

Some backing tracks are protected and won't open in audacity. If you select the relevant input option and press record and then play the track , audacity will record it. I'm not sure if there's a loss of quality but on my gear it's not noticeable.

After splitting the track and deleting the one you don't want, there's an option in edit to duplicate the track you do want. You can then make the two tracks stereo again. Before you export it you can adjust the output volume.

Hi Guys I have a similar problem, i have followed the advice and split the track, but you can still hear the demo on both tracks (one is very much louder than the other) is that just a sound bleed that I can tdo anything about? is do you know differently?

Thanks
Dave

Yes it sounds like it's bleed. There's an option to make a karaoke track that removes vocals. It may make it less noticeable but it will still be there. You'd need a much more powerful tool delve into the track and remove specific items.

Most vocal removers work by assuming that the vocals are panned dead centre and take that out of the mix (but often leaving a muddy residue).

Here the demo will be panned hard over to one channel but with a bit of bleed. I think you are stuck with it !

I had just worked out how to do this in Audacity, myself.
Glad to know I did exactly as suggested here, including copying the track so I had the same track in stereo 😀

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
