i think i'm pobably wrong and all these old keilwerths had rolled toneholes but the toneking versions (when they started, after these in this thread) usually had trill keys.

Jean Barre...A German horn with a French name in America.

Someone had the idea before P. Mauriat.

I've searched a lot for info on Jean Barre but there's not much out there. They seem more known for their clarinets. I haven't learned if they were a French retailer, instrument maker, or German/East European maker with a French name, or what.

I've been following this thread with interest as I have a early 60s Keilwerth stencil, a Jean Barre alto (afaict from the serial # which may not relate to the Keilwerth numbers I guess), which I think is based on the New King? And it has rolled tone holes. I suppose tracking the detail changes across stencils might be even more difficult.
I have done some Barres - they seem to have been New Kings, if memory serves.

Hello and welcome. In US worth around $500-600 if in playing condition. I doubt it is worth much more in Europe.

strangely enough i have just come across a picture of a keilwerth with no trill keys called toneking with the addition 'modell the new king', so, in short, i give up.
