“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” a big Christmas song. It’s written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Darlene Love sang the song originally on the recording on the Christmas compilation “A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector” in 1963. Of course, it’s Phil Spector himself that produced the song. “Wall of sound”, that's why it’s big? On the edge to be called bombastic? There is an eight bar baritone solo on the recording. I think it was Steve Douglas that played the solo. “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” was for many years performed on Letterman’s shows. Bruce Kapler played the baritone solo most of the years. Pretty close to recording from 1963.

“Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” is a great play along song. I practice long low tones and I also try to play the solo. Lot’s of volume. Every year I also discover how difficult it’s to play a baritone solo. Concert E or Eb? I have an old baritone to low Bb so concert E …. but concert Eb is also …. .

The eight bar solo in concert Eb goes over (guitar chords)
/ Eb / Eb / Gm / Gm / Ab / Ab / Bb7 / Bb7 /

I’m not sure where to post this? Maybe it’s too much …. or too nerdy …or just uninteresting …. . Rock & Roll Saxophone waffle.

Damn! What a voice.
Nice unpretentious bari too.
Good choice Sir.

I had a Christmas rocksax experience at the weekend...I depped for a function band, their encore was the Springsteen version of Santa Claus is coming to town. There was no sax part for it so thought I'd be able to pack up early, but the trumpet player said "can you play the Clarence clemons solo in the middle? I'll give you a nod a couple of bars before".

I'd never heard it before...had a listen to it the next day out of curiosity and luckily I think I played pretty much what Clarence played!

Darlene Love has a great voice. I read that she didn't change the key so often when she sang this song. Most singers use to lower the key when they are singing much. And age can also be a reason to lower key. She is great in all keys.
