I spent a very pleasant afternoon in the Robert Gillow Lancaster yesterday. The Sun Street Stompers, a new Orleans/Trad group played the first session from noon and were very welcoming to folk wanting to sit in, and there were several. At 3pm the jazz piano trio took over and welcomed contributions from the audience, be it vocal or instrumental and there were several. The place was full of musicians, pro, amateur and retired. I was chatting to a retired opera soprano. I even got invited to a birthday party at the hospice up the road. There seems to be something on all the time , be it booked or impromptu. Good grub too and a well stocked bar.
