I'm thinking of getting a reed case to hold up to 6 tenor reeds. The plastic holders that the reeds come in seem okay in terms of the reeds not warping, and my reeds seem to work okay if I wet them after they have been left to dry out. The thin end gets some slight longitudinal wrinkling when they dry, but that seems to disappear once they're wetted again. While the individual holders seem to work okay, I don't feel I'm very organised with them - something that keeps the reeds in neat rows is more appealing.

The reed cases seem to break down into various types: reed guards which just seem to be bigger versions of the holders that the reeds come in, the humidor things that have to be fed sachets of moisture stuff, plastic ones that mostly seem to seal, and various pretty ones with glass inside, some of which seal and some of which have vents.

I'm attracted to the pretty wooden ones with the glass plates. Is there any reason to not get such a thing? Some use elastic to hold down the reeds, and others have a pad or presser affair in the lid. Are there any considerations in that regard? Are the vented ones better, or do the wooden ones tend not to have a particularly great seal anyway? Is a sealed case better?

I have a reed case for my alto reeds, but keep all my Bari, Tenor and Sop reeds together in the individual plastic cases that they come in, inside a smallish "lock n lock" style box.
I number and date every reed, on its plastic case, so I just cycle through the reeds during practice on a daily basis.
Although my alto sax reed case is one of those that take a humidifying sachet, I don't usually bother replacing it - I'm not convinced the middle of the road British weather here often justifies it. Maybe if we lived in some extremes of weather / temperature / humidity it would be worthwhile.

The wood glass ones are common here. My son uses one for his clarinet reeds, has an elastic to hold the reeds. I use one like Many for my alto, like her I don't bother with the sachets. I use the Rico type for tenor / bari, and the plastic holders the reeds come in for sop.

About the only benefit of having a case as far as I can see is tidiness. Which is why I haven't bothered for Sop. To me the wooden ones look better.

You just need something to keep them together. Pick what's neatest/most practical. Numbered slots help a lot with rotation, but many holders don't have this.
